JLE was engaged by Fletcher Construction as lead electrical contractor to work alongside BECA to design and build a new 50 million litre per day water treatment plant at Watercare’s existing Tuakau facility. Design started as a temporary water treatment plant with a life span of 2 years but quickly evolved to a 10+years life span plant during construction phase. Design started a week ahead of construction on site. The Waikato 50 plant was built in record time and is one of the most sophisticated water treatment plants in New Zealand. It incorporates ultra-filtration and membrane technology to turn river water into top quality drinking water. This new plant consists of a new raw water intake built on a floating pontoon to pump water uphill, water treatment plant with membrane, carbon filters and complete dosing system, storage tanks and pumping station to pump water to Auckland. JLE provided resources for design review, planning and execution support, high/ medium/ low and extra low voltage, instrumentation and building services installation works on the project.
