JLE have just completed the supply of two storage tanks and super duplex piping spools for Newcrest Mining at their Lihir Island site in PNG. These tanks and piping were manufactured at our fabrication partners’ specialty workshop in Nantong, China.
Given the acidic corrosive nature of the product to be stored in the tanks, one of the tanks had a titanium roof and both tanks had a 50mm carbon steel floor. This thickness was required to provide enough strength in the bottom of the tanks to take the additional weight of the floor and shell brick lining during installation of the tanks onto the foundations at site.
To ensure the fabrication of the tanks and piping met the quality assurance requirements with respect to engineering standards and specifications and also project programme was maintained JLE had a full time mechanical supervisor based at the fabrication facility in China for the duration of the shop detailing, fabrication, testing, painting and packaging activities.
